About WeAreObservers

We have developed our teaching skills over 16 years, designing workshops that allow each participant to take the practice of Creative Photography and apply it in their lives. Our Workshops are community-focused. They're supportive environments that encourage mindfulness for personal growth through photography. We provide support and mentorship beyond the workshops and remain accessible to participants who have attended our programs. We aim to empower Photographers of all levels to gain clarity about creative photography by developing habits together with practical technical camera skills.

We welcome you to join us on a workshop, a free walk, or one of the creative community events on our calendar.

Before we are Photographers....WeAreObservers! ReFrame the way you see the world.

Photography found Shane whilst travelling in London in 1998. His adventurous spirit and passion for music led him to tour with Ben Harper, as his concert photographer. Being a huge fan and having never owned a camera before, that adventure was his baptism by fire!
This extraordinary beginning led him further into photography. He followed his camera into music festivals, cultural events, new countries, great friendships and eventually to a creer in Advertising when he returned to Sydney where he continued his love for photographing musicians and meeting artists while pursuing his own projects. He inevitably became involved in teaching photography, co-founding 'The Aperture Club' in 2013. In 2017, he went on to set up 'WeAreObservers', organising PhotoWalks, PhotoTalks and PhotoEvents for traditional cameras and the up-and-coming smartphone technology, which was developing into something powerful.

Shanes knowlegde of photography and creative thinking comes from his real-life experience, which is why he can take photographers at any stage of experience and unfold the process of creative thinking for them. He thoroughly understands the process because he was once there himself. Shane has helped hundreds of photographers with insights into their own photographic strenghts.

Colin Seton comes from a professional background in Audio and video production. Colin was born to teach and has done exactly that for over 40 years. Before he taught Photography, he taught Computer Software, and through this experience, developed his methods for designing structured courses with measurable results. Colin was among the first Photographers to teach Phone Photography in Sydney when it began in 2016/2017. He saw the potential of smartphones as a tool for image-making from the early days. His knowledge across all smartphone brands is phenomenal! His love for teaching has earned him lots of commendations from our community. He has given hundreds of photographers the confidence to move forward in the world of creative Photography.

"Photography is an expression of our experience. It creates a connection that allows us to re-live that moment."
